Alec's Perspective of SOH
Alec Lightwood is practicing with his bow. He gets his best friend Jace to throw a target straight up in the air so that he can try and pin it to the wall with an arrow. Jace throws the target and Alec shoots, pinning it to the wall. The arrow slants down slightly toward Alec and he wants to know the distance it would take to walk from where he stands to the wall where the arrow is. Alec knows the arrow is pinned at an angle 92 feet up with a 42 degree angle with the wall. Using the distance to the arrow and its angle with the wall, help Alec find how many feet away the wall is.
Hypotenuse = 92
Angle = 40
Equation = HypSin(Angle)
HypSin(Angle) = 92Sin(40)
Base = 59.14 Feet
Angle = 40
Equation = HypSin(Angle)
HypSin(Angle) = 92Sin(40)
Base = 59.14 Feet
Now Jace is up to help with CAH
Jace Herondale is drawing a battle rune on his arm. The rune starts as a right triangle before the additional designs are added. Jace starts by drawing the triangle. To get the rune to work affectivly, it must be drawn perfectly. The hypotenuse of the rune is 20 cm and the angle made from the base and hypotenuse is 50 degrees. To make sure his rune works, Jace needs to find out how long the base needs to be. To get his rune to work, how long does his missing side length need to be?
Hypotenuse - 20 cm
Angle - 50 degrees
Equation - HypCos(Angle)
HypCos(Angle) = 20Tan(50)
Base Length = 12.85 c
Angle - 50 degrees
Equation - HypCos(Angle)
HypCos(Angle) = 20Tan(50)
Base Length = 12.85 c
Isabelle shows how to solve with TOA
Isabelle is going to use her electrum whip to pull herself up a wall. She slings out the whip and wraps it around a point at the top of the wall. She doesn't know how far she is from the wall but her whip is pulled tight at a diagonal angle. She is crouched down, hiding from enemies so her whip makes a 25 degree angle with the ground. She knows the wall is about 10 feet tall. To ensure she can safely make it up the wall, Isabelle needs to calculate how far she currently stands from the wall. Using TOA, solve for Isabelles distance from the wall.
Height = 10 Feet
Angle = 25 Degrees
Equation = HeightTan(Angle)
HeightTan(Angle) = 10Tan(25)
Base Length = 4.7 Feet
Angle = 25 Degrees
Equation = HeightTan(Angle)
HeightTan(Angle) = 10Tan(25)
Base Length = 4.7 Feet
